Stuff I've been up to.

Yeah, one of these posts.

Well I read Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker yesterday, and really enjoyed it (well of course, I read it in one day. lol). He has the knack of drawing you in and not letting you put the book down, quite amazing. I also watched Exit Through The Gift Shop - the Banksy film, and Only Yesterday - another Studio Ghibli film, over the weekend. I should probably list what I got for Christmas:

  • The Cat Returns (my favourite Studio Ghibli film), Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away, Only Yesterday, and Tales from Earthsea.
  • Exit Through The Gift Shop,
  • Brandon's Warbreaker and The Way of Kings,
  • Dan Simmons' Illium-Olympos,
  • a new copy of Tad Williams' War of the Flowers,
  • t-shirts: '[pacman]//omnomnom' ,  'meh', 'keep out of direct sunlight', and 'I love vegetarians//more meat for me'
  • a couple of jumpers and some trousers, and socks and underwear.

I got a book, t-shirt (the 'meh' one) and demotivation calendar off Meesha, and about £200 from relatives. Other than that I spent the weekend with my mothers family, and spoke at length (both Skype and gTalk) with Meesha. Twas a rather magical Christmas all in all. Oh, and we ate (and are still eating) plenty :D

Other stuff I've been upto? Well I've been at uni pretty solidly, since I'm really trying to apply myself this year to salvage as good a degree as possible. I've been working one day a week since the start of term (and worked the start of last week too), and enjoyed that, finishing up the Sonar, doing some C# and messing with Android etc. Now I'm on holiday I've going to keep the maths we did last term fresh for my exams, which means practising/revising, and also I have to write a File System for my Operating Systems course.

The Time has Cometh

Indeed. I have a Java exam tomorrow. Hopefully wont be too taxing, but its at 9 am, tooo early zzz :D

Me and my friends had a nice weekend, we all went to the cinema and watched Night@Museum2.0. I have to say, Amelia Earhart was quite attractive… LOL. Then we got some pizza, ate it in Arcath’s garden, went to the pub for a few rounds of pool, a game of dominoes and some card games too. When we got back to Arcath’s we watched Black Sheep, a humorously silly film about a super sheep gone bad, and then we started watching The Greatest Game Ever Played from about half way through. It was a nice film about a up-and-coming golf player, or something, winning the American Open and beating the ‘greatest English player of all time’.

I also moved back to windows (BOOOOOO) cause I felt like installing SimCity 4 (SC4D, and maybe Supreme Commander. I installed putty and got to work on something or another. But it just wasnt that great, one term per program isnt enough. So I went and got Ubuntu for Windows (BOOOOO). I dont really like Ubuntu, but as it was relatively easy to install, I thought I might as well take a crack at it. Another annoying thing about windows, is that the stock sound drivers that came with my mobo periodically break svchost. Every time. No exceptions. I hope the ones from the internet that I just downloaded work without crashing.

I am in the process of re-organizing my web server, so that it looks nicer “behind-the-scenes”, and works nicer too.

EDIT: Update, I have sound working :D, and that Ubuntu for Windows (BOOOO) sucks ass, not even a virtual machine-like jive…

Just remember, in the top draw of my desk there is a letter, my last wishes. Its in a folder…marked Miscellaneous

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, the elderly father says that to his paralysed, mute son via phone. It made my cry, quite a lot.
